Lexie Tonnemacher, B.S.
Ph.D. Student
Background: My interest and passion for all things science and the human body stems from when I was a young child. This eventually led me to start my collegiate career thinking I wanted to attend medical school. During my undergraduate education, I had the opportunity to join a lab that studied muscle biology and Parkinson’s disease. It was this experience that revealed my drive for research and to investigate the unknown. As a result, I decided to pursue a career as a scientist. I am fascinated by the molecular world, the pathways that govern it, and how we can manipulate these pathways for the good of our health. I am also in awe of how little we know about the physiological mechanisms within skeletal muscle, how our skeletal muscle changes with aging and varied pathologies, and how we can use exercise as medicine to treat conditions on the cellular level.
Outside the Lab: When not in the lab or studying, you can find me trying new coffee shops, traveling with my family, spending time with friends, dancing, taking workout classes, and crafting.
